As an STNA, you will play a key part in supporting the health and well-being of individuals across various care settings, including long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, hospitals, and home care environments. Responsibilities
- Assist residents and patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using safe lifting practices and assistive devices like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; document findings accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper handling and adherence to HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Provide compassionate dementia and Alzheimer's care, creating a safe and engaging environment tailored to memory care needs.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to report changes in patient condition promptly; assist with medical documentation and record keeping.
- Practice aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection; handle medical equipment such as catheters with precision and care.
- Facilitate patient transfers using proper patient transfer methods; operate equipment like Hoyer lifts safely while adhering to OSHA standards for manual handling.
Skills
- Proven experience working with geriatric patients in long-term care or nursing home settings; familiarity with senior care best practices.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs measurement, and basic life support (CPR) certification.
- Experience using EMR/EHR systems such as PCC for accurate documentation.
- Strong caregiving communication skills to effectively interact with patients with disabilities or cognitive impairments such as dementia or memory loss.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining proper body mechanics; understanding of anatomy and physiology relevant to patient care.
- Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA compliance and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
