Job summary

Koch is seeking a State Tax Manager – Controversy to join our team. Based in Atlanta, Plano, or Wichita, you will support a tax leader in managing state income tax controversy and positions, with exposure to technical research, documentation, and cross-functional communication.

You will engage with business units and leaders to develop innovative solutions, with opportunities across tax capabilities including reporting, controversy, and process transformation.

Qualifications

• Foundational knowledge of state income tax and related statutes.
• Ability to interpret statutes, regulations and case law.
• Experience communicating complex tax concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to learn and grow as a technical expert.

Responsibilities

• Manage state income tax notice responses, audit responses, and communication with auditors; draft responses and develop strategy.
• Manage state income tax appeals, including drafting protests and meeting with tax authorities.
• Collaborate with business units, tax directors, and external advisors to resolve tax controversy matters.
• Analyze state tax authority data, business facts, and transactions to identify optimization opportunities.
• Conduct research on state law, proposed changes, and caselaw developments to stay current and assess impacts.
