Job summary

Office of the NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli seeks candidates for State Program Examiner Trainee roles to support performance audits across agencies and authorities. Trainees will receive structured and on-the-job training to gain experience for full performance levels.

You may start at Trainee 1 or Trainee 2 with corresponding SG levels and salary, with potential advancement to SG-18 after a traineeship, under NYS Civil Service rules.

Qualifications

• Must hold a bachelor’s or graduate degree in accounting, business administration, business management, computer science, computer information systems, or related IT field; plus related fields such as criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public health, public policy, political science, or statistics.
• For Trainee 2 or higher, a master’s or doctoral degree in accounting, business administration, management, criminal justice, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, public health, public policy, political science, or statistics.
• Competitive minimum qualifications include eligibility on appropriate lists or transferability to the title under Civil Service rules.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate systems and procedures for compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and contract terms.
• Assess efficiency and effectiveness of programs and proper use of funds.
• Prepare audit work papers and preliminary findings; discuss with auditee representatives.
• Participate in exit and entrance conferences.
