Job summary

Office of the New York State Comptroller seeks an Auditor position to support county, town, village, school, and district audits under government auditing standards. You will assist in audits, perform tests, gather findings, and prepare reports.

Responsibilities include interviewing local officials, developing scope, reviewing annual financial data, and offering guidance and training. Travel varies by annual work plan and is regional.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 24 undergraduate or graduate credits in accounting and/or auditing.
• Master’s or Doctoral degree in accounting, business administration, economics, engineering, finance, mathematics, public administration, political science, or statistics with 24 credits in accounting/auditing.
• For Auditor 1 Municipal: 24 credits in accounting/auditing and two years of professional accounting experience; or master’s/doctoral degree with 24 credits and one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing services including financial and performance audits per government auditing standards.
• Review annual financial information submitted by local government entities; analyze local government fiscal health.
• Conduct interviews, develop audit scope and tests, gather and summarize findings, prepare audit reports, and provide training to local officials.
