Job Summary

The Trades Tech I position is primarily responsible for performing routine cleaning and maintenance of restrooms, facilities, grounds, and trails, as as well as assisting with special projects as needed.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of restrooms, yurts, facilities, grounds, and trails, including stocking supplies, collecting trash, mowing, and weed trimming.
Operate a variety of hand tools and cleaning tools, including hammers, hand saws, pruners, loppers, shovels, mops, brooms, and dusters.
Operate power tools and equipment such as weed eaters, pressure washers, blowers, circular saws, reciprocating saws, drills, vacuum cleaners, and lawn mowers.
Conduct routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on all assigned tools and equipment.
Interact professionally with the public by answering questions, providing information, and offering general assistance as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Experience using basic hand and power tools.
Experience cleaning and maintaining restrooms and/or facilities.
Experience operating landscape or grounds-maintenance equipment.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Ability to follow establish procedures, take direction, interact positively with staff, volunteers, and visitors, and consistently produce high-quality work.
Experience providing customer service to the public.
Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.
Ability to lift 50 lbs., hike trails of varying surfaces, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Additional Considerations

Previous experience working in a park, outdoor recreation, or similar field experience.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations related to safe storage and use of cleaning chemicals.
Experience performing basic small engine repairs and maintenance.

Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
