Leesylvania State Park, operated by Virginia State Parks, is seeking a Trails Specialist to maintain and improve established trails and support resource management projects within the park.

This role involves independent work, hazard monitoring along trails, performing maintenance with hand and power tools, and supervising volunteers as needed in varying weather conditions.

Leesylvania State Park is accepting applications for a Trails Specialistposition.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a responsible, goal-oriented individual who can work independently. This role will work to maintain and improve established trails throughout the park. The role will also support resource management projects and supervise volunteers as needed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitor and address hazards such as fallen trees, erosion, and invasive plants along trails.
• Perform trail maintenance using a variety of tools.
• Maintain equipment and tools

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. and work outdoors independently, in various weather conditions.
• Must be able to utilize mobile device applications for scheduling and task tracking.
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• General knowledge of best practices for basic care and use of hand tools and power tools is needed.

Additional Considerations:

• Knowledge and skills related to trail maintenance, resource management, or landscaping.

Special Instructions:

• Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
• Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
