Job summary

South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism seeks an off-park ranger to assist with the operation, maintenance, and development of a brand-new state park. You will work with agency stakeholders and engage the public to educate on park initiatives and progress development.

The role includes administrative tasks, retail and facilities oversight, public interpretation, and enforcing park rules, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of bookkeeping, merchandising and applicable sales principles and practices.
• Knowledge of terminology and research practices.
• Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies and organizational functions.
• Skill in operating a motor vehicle.
• Ability to plan and organize work activities and prioritize tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to train other employees.
• Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
• Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with administrative activities including revenues, reports and payments.
• Oversee operational activities such as retail sales, day use areas, camping and accommodations.
• Provide office support including callers, correspondence, and records retrieval.
• Perform maintenance and repair on buildings and grounds.
• Interpret park resources to visitors.
• Support public relations and education activities and enforce park rules.
• Promote teamwork and participate in agency teams.
