Job summary

State of Vermont – Office of Legislative Counsel seeks to hire an Assistant Sergeant at Arms. The role provides nonpartisan operational and administrative support to the Vermont General Assembly and manages the main office for the State House Capitol in Montpelier.

Responsibilities include assisting members and the public, scheduling rooms, and handling payroll and expenses, with longer hours during the legislative session.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of college coursework or equivalent work experience.
• 4+ years of related work experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Notary Public appointment.
• Experience in government organizations.
• Experience in managing budgets and financial resources.
• Experience in directly supervising and managing professional staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage the main office for the State House Capitol in support of the Sergeant at Arms.
• Assist members and the public, schedule State House rooms, and manage maintenance work orders.
• Process payroll and expenses.
