Pay Range

This range is provided by the State of North Carolina. Your actual pay will depend on your skills and experience. Talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Base pay range: $43,811.00/yr - $70,098.00/yr

Effective from January 1st, 2025, the new salary range will be $43,811 - $70,098.

This position qualifies for the employee referral bonus program. If referred by a current DPS employee and hired, the referring employee may qualify for a bonus.

This is a continuous posting; your application remains active for 180 days. Only one application is allowed during this period.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain physical security of state buildings and grounds.
• Respond to calls for service, investigate suspicious persons/activities, and enforce laws within jurisdiction.
• Check buildings during non-working hours for security, write reports, and investigate criminal acts.
• Testify in court, provide escorts for dignitaries, and issue citations.
• If lacking BLET certification, DPS will sponsor training, and you will earn a salary during training. BLET must be completed within one year of hire.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 20 years old.
• Possession of a valid NC Driver's License.
• High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid BLET and/or police officer experience.
• Knowledge of criminal and traffic laws, investigative techniques, law enforcement equipment, court processes, and effective communication skills.

Special Qualifications

• Must complete NC Probationary Law Enforcement Certification within one year.
• Must possess a valid NC Driver's License or provide proof prior to hire.

Additional Information
