Responsibilities

Duties / Responsibilities

Perform startup and commissioning of newly installed commercial HVAC equipment, including rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, air handlers, make‑up air units, exhaust fans, and related equipment. Verify proper installation and operation of HVAC equipment according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements. Inspect equipment, ductwork, and associated components to identify installation deficiencies and recommend corrective actions. Perform operational testing, system checks, and functional performance verification. Measure and record operating data including voltage, amperage, refrigerant pressures, airflow, temperatures, and other system performance metrics. Troubleshoot startup issues and coordinate repairs or corrections with installation teams when necessary. Complete startup reports, commissioning documentation, and project records accurately and on time. Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, and field personnel regarding startup status and project completion. Coordinate scheduling and startup activities to support project timelines. Maintain company vehicles, tools, testing equipment, and inventory in a clean and organized condition. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and manufacturer safety requirements. Identify and report job site hazards and assist in maintaining a safe work environment. Participate in ongoing training to remain current on HVAC equipment, startup procedures, and industry best practices.

Required Skills / Abilities

• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of commercial HVAC systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and mechanical drawings.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems, refrigeration cycles, airflow, and HVAC controls.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with project teams.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of commercial HVAC installation, sheet metal, startup, or service experience preferred.
• EPA Certification preferred but not required.
• Experience reading mechanical plans and equipment specifications preferred.
• Knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment manufacturers and startup procedures is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, crouching, and overhead work.
• Ability to work on rooftops, lifts, ladders, and in mechanical rooms.
• Must be able to work in varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
• Must possess the ability to adjust focus for close‑up work, with or without correction.
