Job summary

NANA Worley is seeking a Rotational Start-up Engineer to provide field support on projects from pre-IFA through turnover in North Slope Alaska. The role reports to the Facility Engineer Supervisor in Anchorage and involves 12-hour shifts on a 2-week rotation, with on-site collaboration across Operations, Maintenance, Design, and Construction.

Responsibilities include P&ID walkdowns, signing off mechanical completions, commissioning planning, RFIs tracking, and close collaboration with Operators

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and two years of experience is required; or five years oil/gas experience may be considered.
  • North Slope Alaska experience preferred; Arctic/cold weather experience is a plus.
  • Read basic P&ID and perform field walk downs; basic engineering knowledge expected.
  • Familiar with industry codes, standards and practices relevant to oil & gas.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Walk down P&IDs to ensure accuracy or resolve discrepancies.
  • Lead project walk downs and sign-off for mechanical completions.
  • Prepare forms for commissioning, startup, and turnover to Operations.
  • Provide engineering support and constructability feedback to Operations.
  • Track RFIs and design changes to inform Operations.
  • Assist procurement to identify vendor support and spares.
  • Create and manage MOCs for all operation phases and assign tasks.
  • Audit PHAs and PPRs to address issues before startup.
  • Evaluate field changes to assess impact on PHA.
  • Develop commissioning, startup, and preventive maintenance plans.
  • Ensure documentation flow before turnover.
  • Track punch lists and close items per Operations standards.
  • Coordinate with Automation for information and FCO scheduling.
  • Verify operator set-points with Board Operators and Automation Engineers.

Job Description

The Rotational Start-up Engineer position provides field support on specific projects for Operations, Maintenance, Design, and Construction from pre-IFA through construction to post-construction.This position reports directly to the Facility Engineer Supervisor based in Anchorage.Work involves on-site field coordination with the Projects team, meeting with the Project Lead, Supervisor/Superintendent, and Facility Engineer to determine tasks needed to progress execution on schedule.As such, the position is based in North Slope Alaska with a 12-hour shift, 2-week rotational schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Walk down P&IDs to ensure accuracy or resolve discrepancies.
  • Responsible for project walk downs and sign-off for mechanical completions.
  • Complete forms required for commissioning, startup, and Operations turnover.
  • Provide engineering technical support and constructability feedback to Operations.
  • Track and manage RFIs to ensure Operations is aware of design changes.
  • Assist with the procurement process to identify vendor support, quotes, start-up spares, and critical spares as required.
  • Create and manage the MOCs for all phases of operation and assign all tasks.
  • Audit PHAs and PPRs to ensure all issues are adequately addressed before equipment startup.
  • Evaluate field changes (ie. PCR, RFI, ECAR) to determine if they affect the PHA.
  • Develop commissioning plan, startup plan, and Preventative Maintenance for Operations.
  • Ensure documentation flow requirements are complete prior to turnover.
  • Track punch list and outstanding work items to completion per Operations standards.
  • Coordinate with Automation to ensure sufficient information is provided, including FCO schedule.
  • Verify operator adjustable set-points with Board Operators and Automation Engineers.
  • Other duties for the project to be successful may require marking up drawings, assist with troubleshooting post start-up, and any other project close out requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering and two years of experience is required; or a minimum of five (5) years of Oil and Gas Industry experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in North Slope Alaska is preferred.
  • Familiarity with North Slope Alaska operating facilities including drill sites is preferred.
  • Prior experience living or working in an Arctic or cold weather environment is preferred.
  • Basic level of engineering skills, ability to read a basic P&ID and perform walk downs.
  • Basic knowledge of Industry Codes, Standards, and Recommended Practices.
  • Ability to work independently without direct field supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple assignments in a changing environment.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs to gather data. Locations are sometimes in tight, noisy, dimly lit areas. A person with acrophobia or claustrophobia might be uncomfortable.
  • Willingness and ability to communicate with Operators, Project Leads, Facility Engineers, and other team members.
  • Ability to navigate computer data tools including SAP, KMS, etc.
  • Ability to drive and work outside in cold weather Arctic environment, within the Company’s safety policy. Good judgment of one’s tolerance for the cold and ability to drive in harsh weather/road conditions is essential.
Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and current versions of AutoCAD design software.
