Job summary

SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA is seeking a PCB Designer for the Starship team to craft layouts for in-house boards. You will partner with Hardware Development Engineers, iterating designs from schematics to fabrication, tackling high-density, high-speed boards used in spaceflight.

Responsibilities include layer stack-up decisions, 20+ layer routing, SI/PI simulations, DRC/ERC checks, and delivering Gerber/IPC outputs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering OR 3+ years of PCB layout experience; internships and club/project work apply.
• Experience with modern passive and active electronics components, RF components, high pin density.
• Proficiency in generating fabrication outputs (Gerber, ODB++, IPC-2581) and DFM/DFA.

Responsibilities

• Determine layer stack-up and routing feasibility for digital, analog, RF, and power PCB.
• Perform multilayer PCB layout with 20+ layers and high-speed routing.
• Conduct SI/PI simulations to mitigate crosstalk and EMI/EMC issues.
• Produce fabrication deliverables (Gerber, ODB++, IPC-2581, drill files).
• Collaborate with hardware/firmware engineers for validation and prototype bring-up.
• Drive design rules improvement with vendors and internal teams.
• Assist librarians in creating and maintaining PCB libraries (symbols, footprints, 3D models).
• Support stack-up planning with mechanical/thermal/RF/test teams.
