Job summary

SpaceX in Hawthorne is seeking a Build Engineer (Starship Mechanisms) to partner with design and production teams to develop structures, tools, and manufacturing processes for Starship and Super Heavy.

You will own high-level project management, review CAD models for optimization, and design factory layouts to enable high-rate, low-cost production. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s in engineering or physics and 1+ years of hands-on experience in design, development, and manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or physics.
• 1+ years hands on experience driving design, development and manufacturing (internships, personal projects, and academic project team experience applicable).

Responsibilities

• Develop production procedures/processes and manage the transition of parts and assemblies from development to production.
• Review CAD models to ensure designs are optimized and efficient.
• Design the factory and process to deliver state-of-the-art hardware for Starship and Super Heavy.
• Integrate subsystems into full vehicle assemblies.
• Design tools for manufacturing.
• Own high-level project management.
• Develop and execute test procedures.
• Question assembly/test requirements, delete parts and manufacturing processes, simplify/optimize production flow, accelerate production, and cut-in targeted automation.
• Implement linear production flow, visual indicators of bottlenecks/stock-outs, and product-specific build/test cells for low-intervention production.
• Partner with other teams to generate ideas, designs, and improvements for current and next-generation vehicles.
