Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical scope for Starship infrastructure, from concept through fabrication, construction, and commissioning. You will define technical direction, collaborate across engineering, construction, and operations, and see your designs realized in field hardware.

You will develop design concepts for power generation, cooling, and supporting structures, create CAD models, run FEA, and validate designs with tests and first articles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering is required
• 7+ years of mechanical design and analysis experience
• Experience with high-performance mechanical systems and interdisciplinary collaboration

Responsibilities

• Develop design concepts from a clean sheet and size infrastructure systems based on loads and site conditions
• Collaborate across disciplines to balance cost, schedule, reliability and capability
• Create detailed designs and generate CAD models for components and integration into the site
• Build analysis models to assess designs and confirm they meet system needs
• Apply hand calculations and empirical methods to iterate designs quickly
• Validate designs through development hardware, mockups or first articles and test critical joints and components
• Support testing and commissioning of subsystems and full installations
• Partner with construction, build engineers and technicians to improve designs and see them built in the field
• Support installation of hardware, witness it go into service
