Job summary

SpaceX is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer for Starship. You will design, program, and integrate automated cells and safety systems to advance Starship production and new manufacturing tech.

You will build maintainable PLC code, develop intuitive HMI screens, and ensure NEC/NFPA/UL compliance. The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering or related field and 1+ years in automation, with the ability to operate in a fast-moving, iterative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, physics, computer science, or other engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of total experience in industrial or factory automation design and implementation.
  • Experience with quick and iterative design and manufacturing roles.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and manage automation projects from ideation to hand-off to operations.
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC code for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Ensure safety by implementing ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant systems for robots and conveyors.
  • Create simple, readable HMI screens for complex machines.
  • Design electrical systems compliant with NEC, NFPA, and UL508A.
  • Create schedules and budgets and drive the team to meet them.
