Job summary

SpaceX is seeking an Electric Propulsion Engineer, Mechanical for Starlink, responsible for end-to-end propulsion hardware design, analysis, testing and on-orbit life cycle. You will oversee hardware from concept to production and work with plasma physics, avionics, and electrical engineers to advance propulsion tech.

Responsibilities include solving complex mechanical, thermal and fluid problems, and driving system-level optimization, DFMA, and robust production processes while ensuring on-time

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience with CAD and FEA software packages.
  • 1+ years of industry experience (internships/co-ops can apply).
  • Master's degree and 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical design/analysis are preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with propulsion systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex mechanical, thermal, magnetic, and fluid system problems on space-grade hardware.
  • Own hardware from conceptual design through production and on-orbit operation.
  • Collaborate with thermal, materials, electrical, mechanical, software and GNC groups.
  • Develop design criteria and drive system-level optimization.
  • Drive DFMA and reduce part count while ensuring quality and performance.
  • Establish product lifecycle from supply chain to final integration.
  • Perform vacuum chamber tests and environmental tests to validate designs.
  • Own delivery timelines from conception to on-orbit performance.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and disposition non-conformances.
  • Demonstrate ownership of product outcomes throughout development.
