**New York City, New York, United States**

**Software and Services**

**Summary**

Posted: **May 07, 2025**

Role Number: **200603684**

At Apple, great ideas have a way of becoming phenomenal products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Apple Pay brought Wallet to millions of customers around the world with ability to add Digital Credentials like Credit/Debit, Transit passes, Hotel keys, Car Keys, Theme Park passes, and more recently mobile Drivers License to their Apple Wallet! This requires not only great engineering but also a deep understanding of how institutions operate globally —how they implement, influence, and build standards that enable progress toward a digital world while protecting customers' identity, data, and privacy.

**Description**

We’re looking for a Standards Architect with a strong product influence playing a dual role: contributing to the development and adoption of industry standards (e.g. OpenID, FIDO, W3C, ISO/IEC), while actively shaping the design and roadmap of internal products. You'll ensure that evolving products are interoperable, future-proof, and aligned with global regulatory, technical, and trust frameworks. You'll be contributing to the global evolution of digital credentials while ensuring our internal systems align with best practices and compliance requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Participate in and contribute to industry standards bodies (e.g., OpenID Foundation, FIDO Alliance, W3C, ISO/IEC) to help shape the technical direction of digital credential and security protocols.

- Translate evolving standards into product requirements and influence roadmap decisions to ensure compliance and competitive differentiation.

- Act as a liaison between our engineering, product, and compliance teams, aligning standards work with product strategy and customer needs.

- Anticipate regulatory and industry shifts to inform product planning and technical architecture early.

- Develop conformance and interoperability strategies for digital credentials, wallet, and identity systems.

- Provide technical guidance on standards implementation, trust frameworks, and interoperability testing.

- Document and communicate implications of new and emerging standards to technical and executive stakeholders.

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.

+ 10+ years of experience in digital credentials, identity, access management, cybersecurity standards, and protocol development.

+ Familiarity with OpenID specifications, OAuth 2.0, and associated security models.

+ Solid understanding of ISO/IEC standards related to information security (18013-5, etc.).

+ Experience working with or within standards bodies (e.g., OpenID Foundation, IETF, ISO/IEC, W3C).

+ Excellent writing skills for technical and policy documents.

+ Ability to travel as this position will require domestic and international travel up to 2 times per quarter.

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Active contributor to standards organizations (e.g., published drafts, working group participation).

+ Experience implementing identity federation or single sign-on (SSO) solutions.

+ Knowledge of compliance frameworks like NIST, or GDPR in relation to identity standards.

**Pay & Benefits**
