Job summary

Crane Company is seeking a welding technician for 2nd shift (Mon-Fri, 4:30pm–3:00am; training on day shift) at the Conroe facility. Responsibilities include preparing components, assembling per work orders, and completing welds to ASME BPVC standards.

Requires GTAW stainless on 316L, dimensional reading skills, and ability to operate automated welding equipment. The role demands strong welding accuracy, fabrication experience from drawings, and compliance with safety practices.

Qualifications

• Must have minimal high school education.
• ASME Section IX GTAW certification for 316L stainless or be able to demonstrate ability to pass during interview weld examination.
• Must be able to certify and weld to 1G-6G position on ½ inch – 6-inch pipe.
• Must support development of WPS & WPQR procedures as required in this department.
• Three or more years’ experience with GTAW welding stainless steel and/or completed equivalent technical school training.
• Fabrication experience and ability to work from dimensional drawings, sketches.
• Five or more years' welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Horizontal manual lathe and/or manual machining experience is a plus.
• Simple computer skills required (Excel, Word).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and visually inspect all components; understand dimensions and design requirements per work orders.
• Assemble fabricated designs prior to final welding according to manufacturing procedures.
• Tack weld fittings and special products using manual and automated welding techniques.
• Weld according to ASME BPVC weld procedures and customer specifications.
• Maintain and calibrate welding units; select filler wire, gas, and pressure per procedures.
• Read 2D drawings and interpret customer specifications.
• Operate plasma-arc cutting torch safely per procedures.
• Handle materials in weld cell for consumables and components.
• Adhere to OSHA and Crane safety practices.
