Job summary

Smith Gardens Inc. is seeking a Lead Staging Staff member on the California Central Coast. You will supervise the staging team, train new members, and ensure on-time packing and loading of orders while maintaining product quality.

Responsibilities include allocating staff, assembling racks, and generating shipping labels and reports. The role requires strong teamwork, reliability, and readiness to work extended hours during busy seasons.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with all staff levels.
• Bilingual English and Spanish preferred, both verbal and written.
• Ability to read and identify various plant types and labels.
• Ability to operate a computer and printer.
• With proper training, forklift and pallet jack operation may be required.

Responsibilities

• Train new team members on all Staging processes.
• Allocate Staging team members to meet order deadlines.
• Assemble correct number of racks for Smith orders.
• Adjust rack shelving to fit order needs.
• Ensure all orders are packed or loaded onto racks.
• Monitor plant quality and report issues to Staging leadership.
• Assemble boxes and inserts for parcel shipments.
• Ensure tray netting is tight without damaging plants.
• Create daily parcel labels, shipping reports and pick sheets.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Communicate order status with Staging leadership.
• Support Staging supervisor as needed.

Pacific Plug & Liner was founded in October 1999 and is located on the beautiful California Central Coast with a climate ideal for plant and flower production. We have approximately 290,000 sq. ft. dedicated to growing young plants. Pacific Plug & Liner features a state-of-the-art production facility, ensuring consistent and superior quality.

Lead Staging Staff as the team arranges selected trays onto racks and boxes as needed per order.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Train new team members on all Staging processes.
• Allocate Staging team members appropriately to ensure orders are completed on time.
• Assemble correct number of racks needed for Smith orders.
• Adjust rack shelving to meet order needs.
• Ensure all orders are completely packed or loaded onto racks.
• Monitor quality of plants and communicate any quality issues to Staging leadership.
• Assemble boxes and inserts needed for parcel shipments
• Ensure tray netting is tight without damaging plants.
• Create and run daily parcel labels, shipping reports, pick sheets and other tasks as assigned.
• Maintain work area clean and organized.
• Communicate constantly with Staging leadership on order status and completion of tasks assigned.
• Assist and support Staging supervisor as needed with all tasks

COMPETENCIES

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing, in person and via phone or radio with all levels of staff.
• Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred, both verbal and written
• Ability to read and identify various plant types and labels.
• Ability to use a computer and printer

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• With proper training, will be required to operate Forklift and pallet jack.
• Prior leadership experience preferred
• Detail and safety oriented
• Ability to work in a team environment and under tight deadlines
• Self-motivated
• Reliable and punctual

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work long hours as needed during busy season including weekends.
• Continuously walk, stand, bend, as well as reach overhead and side to side for extended periods.
• Work indoors and outdoors in seasonal temperatures and conditions.
• Lift up to 50 pounds in an environment that is regularly hot.

PAY RANGE

$20.25 - $21.25

Pay rate is determined by various components including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The pay rate is one component of the total compensation package. Other rewards vary by position and location.
