Job summary

Doug Ashy Building Materials is seeking a Full-time Stager to join our Louisiana yard operations in Lafayette. You will pick up delivery tickets, stage and load materials, and verify paperwork with vendors to ensure accurate deliveries.

This role supports customers and the yard team in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year in the building materials industry, can operate a forklift, and is comfortable outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience in the building materials industry.
• Must be able to safely operate a forklift; certification preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 80 lbs occasionally.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
• Outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
• Must follow all safety procedures and wear PPE.
• Basic reading and writing skills.
• Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Available to work every other Saturday (half-day) or as needed.

Responsibilities

• Pull, stage, and load building materials based on delivery tickets — accuracy matters.
• Check incoming vendor trucks to ensure correct delivery and paperwork.
• Unload vendor deliveries and place materials in the correct yard location.
• Monitor yard security and report any suspicious activity or theft.
• Perform daily safety checks on forklifts and complete simple maintenance logs.
• Maintain staging records and report inventory issues to the dispatcher.
• Assist customers as needed — we’re one team.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager to support the team.

Duties

• Pick up delivery tickets from the dispatcher to start your day.
• Pull, stage, and load building materials based on delivery tickets — accuracy matters.
• Check incoming vendor trucks to make sure they’re delivering to Doug Ashy and that everything matches the paperwork.
• Unload vendor deliveries and place materials in the correct yard location.
• Keep an eye on yard security and report any suspicious activity or theft.
• Perform daily safety checks on forklifts and complete simple maintenance logs.
• Keep up with staging records and report any inventory issues to the dispatcher.
• Jump in to help customers when needed — we’re all one team here.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager to support the success of the team and business.

Requirements

• Must be able to safely operate a forklift; certification preferred.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 80 lbs occasionally.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
• Must follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Basic reading and writing skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Dependable and punctual with a positive attitude.
• Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Available to work every other Saturday (half-day) or as needed.
