Job summary

Denison University’s Eisner Center for the Performing Arts seeks a Stage Operations Assistant to hang and focus theatrical lighting, leading student crews for multiple venues. The role functions as Head Production Electrician, ensuring safe installation and operation of lighting during productions.

Ideal candidates will have at least one year of experience and be proficient with ETC Ion/IONXE consoles, while collaborating with the TD on other technical elements and overseeing student staff

Job description

Working closely with the Technical Director of Stage Operations, the Stage Operations Assistant’s primary responsibility will be to support the hang and focus of theatrical lighting for the Theatre, Dance, and Music Department productions at the Eisner Center. Functioning as a Head Production Electrician, they will lead student crews to safely and accurately install theatrical lighting in multiple performance venues. In addition, the Stage Operation team handles the load in of seating risers, audio equipment, and soft goods.

The schedule will be flexible and scheduled on an as-needed basis between August – May.

Basic Functions

Working closely with the Technical Director of Stage Operations, the Stage Operations Assistant’s primary responsibility will be to support the hang and focus of theatrical lighting at Denison University’s Eisner Center for the Performing Arts. Functioning as a Head Production Electrician, they will lead student crews to safely and accurately install theatrical lighting in multiple performance venues. In addition, the Stage Operation team handles the load in of seating risers, audio equipment, and soft goods.

The schedule will be flexible and scheduled on an as-needed basis between August – May, not to exceed 100 hours each semester.

Essential Job Functions

The Stage Operations Assistant will interpret theatrical lighting plots, lead the hang and focus of theatrical lighting fixtures. They will collaborate with the TD of Stage Operations on other technical elements of stage set ups, including pits eating, projections, etc.

They will supervise and guide student staff members, ensuring they complete all necessary tasks in a satisfactory and safe manner. The Stage Operations Assistant will program and patch the lighting consoles (ETC IonXE) at Eisner for performances.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least one year of documented experience in theatrical lighting.
• Ability to read interpret lighting plots and install theatrical lighting
• Experience with ETC Ion or ETC IonXE lighting control consoles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Supervisory experience related to theatrical lighting installation and leading a crew.
• Experience with digital audio consoles
• Experience with ETCNet digital lighting systems
• Facility with working with undergraduate students

Pay range: $18-21/hr
