The Angell Animal Medical Center (AAMC) in Boston, MA is seeking applicants for a Board Certified Small Animal Surgeon at our hospital. Angell is part of the MSPCA, one of the oldest and most respected humane organizations in the world. Angell has served the greater Boston and scenic New England area as a primary care facility, a 24-hour emergency hospital, and as a tertiary referral center for over 100 years.
WHO WE ARE:
Angell is a premier veterinary institution staffed by 52 senior veterinarians, 21 interns, and 17 residents. Angell offers specialty services in anesthesiology, avian and exotic medicine, behavior, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care medicine, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, medical and radiation oncology, ophthalmology, anatomic and clinical pathology, and general, orthopedic and oncologic surgery. AAMC is a rich educational environment offering weekly on-site continuing education seminars and regular multi-disciplinary specialty rounds.
Angell is an 80,000 square foot, state-of-the-art hospital containing a critical care unit, blood bank, multiple specialty rooms, 6 surgical suites, electrodiagnostic equipment (Cadwell, Nicolet), full service clinical laboratory, and histopathology laboratory for on-site biopsy evaluation. Intra-operative surgical biopsies can be processed via cryomicrotome. AAMC’s Diagnostic Imaging Center, supported by 4 board-certified radiologists, has a new state-of-the-art 16 slice Toshiba CT, a brand new 1.5 T MRI, and C-Arm for fluoroscopic imaging. The current surgery staff is comprised of 3.5 board certified surgeons and three small animal surgical residents.

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a Board Certified Surgeon (or surgeon eligible to take the surgery boards) with skills and experience both in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. Individuals are expected to participate in the training of the surgical residents and in the training of interns, as well as providing consultations to the Angell veterinary staff. Writing timely articles for veterinarians and participating in Angell’s Continuing Education Lecture Series is also expected.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must demonstrate aptitude for multi-tasking and working successfully in a team environment. The successful candidate should be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, to the veterinary and technical staff as well as clients and referring veterinarians. Qualified applicants must have a DVM or equivalent and become licensed in the state of Massachusetts.
