Job summary

Canonical is seeking a Staff Design Engineer to shape the UX for cloud networking across MAAS, MicroCloud, and Ubuntu Server networking. You will envision and implement intuitive interfaces for complex networking concepts used by developers and operators.

You’ll mentor designers, drive design systems, and collaborate across distributed teams in a remote-first, international setting. Experience with GUI and CLI, plus a strong design portfolio, is essential.

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in product design, UX design, or interaction design for enterprise products.
Solid understanding of cloud computing and networking fundamentals; experience designing for developers and operations teams.
Strong information architecture and ability to organize complex systems.
Experience with user research methodologies and turning findings into design decisions.
Excellent communication to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

Define and drive UX strategy for cloud networking products across Canonical’s portfolio.
Design intuitive interfaces for complex networking concepts (VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups).
Create and evolve design systems that scale across products and platforms.
Conduct user research with DevOps engineers, network admins, SREs, and cloud architects.
Build prototypes and high-fidelity designs in Figma; support GUI and CLI experiences.
