Job summary

Waymo is seeking a Staff Technical Lead Manager for the ML Evaluation team in Mountain View. You will shape the strategic direction for evaluation platforms, scale infrastructure, and partner with ML and infrastructure teams to validate next‑gen neural networks while accelerating ML developer velocity.

You will guide a focused engineering team, drive best practices across TensorFlow, JAX, Flax, and Apache Beam, and stay ahead of evolving ML evaluation methods and metrics design.

Qualifications

• MS in CS, Mathematics, or equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years building large-scale distributed infrastructure and ML systems.
• 3+ years of engineering management experience.
• Strong Python and C++ coding and testing skills.
• Experience with ML deployment tools (TF Serving, Kubeflow, SageMaker).

Responsibilities

• Define the strategic vision for evaluation platforms to support next-generation ML model evaluation.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, data scientists, and infrastructure teams to surface key signals.
• Scale evaluation and infrastructure platforms to improve ML developer velocity and iteration speed.
• Manage and mentor a team of engineers aligned with organizational needs.
• Drive best practices and leverage the Alphabet ML stack to optimize evaluation workflows.
• Stay at the forefront of ML evaluation methodologies and advanced metrics design.
