Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer – Level 5 to join our Propulsion Systems & Controls unit at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida or Elkton, Maryland. You will lead cross-disciplinary teams to define architectures for propulsion hardware, ensure traceability from requirements through verification, and guide modeling in a MBSE environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a STEM-related discipline with at least 12 years of experience, or a Master’s with 10 years, or PhD with 8 years.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership on complex aerospace or weapon system programs.
  • Experience with requirements development and management and maintaining a requirements baseline.
  • Experience establishing full requirements traceability across stakeholder needs, system requirements, architecture, and verification.
  • Familiarity with MBSE (SysML preferred) using Cameo/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, or similar tools, and integrating models with DOORS.
  • Experience leading technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) or equivalent.
  • Experience developing V&V plans mapping requirements to verification methods.
  • Experience leading system integration and qualification efforts.
  • Ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams to resolve requirements and design issues.
  • Experience with at least one requirements management tool (DOORS, Jama, JIRA).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to document technical information clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and coordination between engineering disciplines and stakeholders for integrated solutions.
  • Own the system baseline and ensure alignment across requirements, architecture, interfaces, verification, and program execution.
  • Plan and own systems engineering tasks for project planning and execution; communicate milestones to leads.
  • Produce and maintain key systems engineering artifacts (requirements, ICDs, V&V matrices, architecture, verification reports) in a MBSE environment.
  • Define and plan testing activities with propulsion engineering; include tests at Elkton, Ronkonkoma, or external ranges.
  • Define and maintain a requirements decomposition strategy across subsystems.
  • Lead requirements and architecture reviews (PDR, CDR) for completeness and feasibility.
  • Lead Risk and Opportunity meetings for technical and program teams.
  • Provide mentorship in Systems Engineering initiatives to other SEs and propulsion engineers.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder relationship-building skills.
