Job summary

Viasat is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to own the engineering integrity of the Access Edge Platform across its lifecycle. You'll work with software, hardware, DevOps, product management, and airline teams to ensure robust, scalable edge solutions used by passengers at altitude.

The role is site-based with 60%+ office presence, and requires leadership in verification, observability, and release readiness, across multiple hardware generations and embedded Linux platforms.

Qualifications

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of hands-on systems software engineering with architectural ownership and root-cause resolution in production.
• Ability to own system-level problems across software, infrastructure, and embedded hardware.

Responsibilities

• Own system-level engineering and lifecycle management across the platform.
• Maintain traceability from product to release with evidence-based gates and governance.
• Manage configuration across airline customers, aircraft platforms, and hardware generations.
• Develop engineering metrics for platform health and release predictability.
• Drive cross-team integration of software, hardware, and operations.
• Lead investigations of complex field issues and post-incident improvements.
