Job summary

EchoStar is seeking a Staff Systems Developer to own the full software development lifecycle for ad sales infrastructure and inventory systems. The role focuses on reliability, data pipeline optimization, and mentoring junior engineers, leveraging AWS and Databricks to delivery projects.

The ideal candidate brings 8–12 years of backend development experience with Python, SQL, Linux, networking, Git, and cloud-based orchestration.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Program Management, Traffic, and IT Support to implement and support media automation projects.
  • Manage and maintain critical inventory management applications, specifically xRef DB and SET.
  • Administer cloud infrastructure for monitoring and ad-ops tools (Magnite, Freewheel, D2, DAI Web Apps).
  • Design, optimize, and maintain automated data pipelines with file normalization and delivery.
  • Analyze system performance, establish quality metrics, and troubleshoot to minimize downtime.
  • Lead code reviews and mentor junior developers to close skill gaps.

Our DISH Media Ad Sales team, headquartered in New York City with additional offices in Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles, empowers brands to reach their target audiences seamlessly across the DISH and Sling platforms. Specializing in data‑driven addressable and programmatic advertising solutions, this innovative and passionate team excels in navigating the dynamic TV advertising landscape.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates must be willing to participate in at least one in‑person interview.

The Staff Systems Developer manages the full software development lifecycle, from conceptualization to deployment and maintenance, for critical ad sales infrastructure and inventory management systems. This role is pivotal for maintaining operational stability, optimizing data pipelines, and mentoring junior engineering staff. The candidate will leverage expertise in AWS and Databricks to drive system reliability and project delivery.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives):

  • Collaborate with Program Management, Traffic, and IT Support to implement and support media automation projects
  • Manage and maintain critical inventory management applications, specifically xRef DB and SET
  • Administer cloud infrastructure for monitoring and ad‑ops tools, including Magnite, Freewheel, D2, and DAI Web Apps
  • Design, optimize, and maintain automated data pipelines, ensuring accurate .sch and .ver file normalization and delivery
  • Analyze system performance, establish quality metrics, and execute operational troubleshooting to minimize downtime
  • Lead code reviews and provide mentorship to junior developers to address skill gaps and foster professional growth
Skills, Experience and Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in a relevant field; or equivalent professional experience
  • 8-12 years of related experience
  • Python, SQL, Linux OS, Networking & Package Management, Git (GitLab), and Google Suite

For NY Candidates, the salary range is $126,000 - 180,900

For CO Candidates, the salary range is $110,100 - 157,300

Compensation: $126,000.00/Year - $180,900.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
