Job summary

Micron Technology is seeking a Linux/Unix systems engineer to support engineering design teams and manage enterprise compute platforms. The role emphasizes automation, scripting, and provisioning of both physical and virtual systems, with Puppet-driven configuration management.

Candidates should have 3–5 years of RedHat/Linux experience, scripting, and virtualization exposure. Cloud experience and LDAP/ Kickstart familiarity are a plus.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years scripting (Shell, Python, etc.).
• 3–5 years virtualization experience (VMware).
• 2–3 years hardware/maintenance in data center.

• Provide best in class computer support for engineering design teams
• Provide technical direction and escalation for technologies maintained within the Linux compute space
• Drive innovation and automation of computer solutions both internally and for our customers
• Provisioning of systems both physical and virtual.
• Drive configuration management through puppet
• Proficient in scripting languages and tools to automate tasks, system builds, and change management (Puppet, Python, shell, etc.)
• Monitor overall health of the Unix/Linux environment with an emphasis on proactive discovery of potential issues and continually work to improve Linux compute environment through automation.
• Propose and implement system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of systems and services.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3-5 years managing enterprise RedHat Unix/Linux solutions, preferably large scale
• Experience ranging from three to five years in scripting skills (Shell, Python, etc.)
• Experience ranging from three to five years with virtualization (vmware)
• Experience ranging from two to three years with computer hardware/maintenance in the data center
• Ability to lift 50lbs!

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting servers in the cloud preferred.
• Proficient with LDAP configuration and management
• In‑depth knowledge of Redhat Kickstart and configuration management tools (puppet preferred)
• Proven skills in automating systems services and tasks to streamline service and ensure consistency
• AI‑first mindset with experience applying AI to problem solving and solution development

Other Desirable Skills

• FlexLm licenese management
• Advanced troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve complex problems as well as a strong drive for continuous improvement and demonstrating a commitment to providing excellent customer service
• Project management experience
• Experience with revision control systems
• Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal)
