Gusto is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Time and Scheduling product team. You will work across the full product lifecycle, writing frontend and backend code, shaping features from early spec and design through launch and long-term iteration.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering, and build scalable, AI-enabled solutions that delight customers. This role requires leadership and a passion for impact.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience building scalable solutions that eliminate customer pain and create memorable experiences.
• Experience leveraging AI tools or systems to accelerate development and testing.
• Curiosity with emerging AI frameworks and safe scaling practices across teams.
• Ownership of multi-quarter projects with measurable customer impact at scale.
• Experience with large-scale refactors, performance and reliability issues.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test Gusto core products across the Time domain.
• Mentor other engineers to solve complex problems at scale.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering to address customer pain points.
• Prototype, iterate, and launch features daily, delivering products customers genuinely love.
