Job summary

Gusto, headquartered in New York with offices across the U.S., is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Time / Scheduling team. You will own features from design through launch, writing clean frontend and robust backend APIs while influencing product direction.

You will mentor engineers, scale a Ruby/Rails and JavaScript/React stack, and collaborate with Product, Data, Design, and Platform teams to deliver value for small businesses and their employees.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience building scalable solutions that eliminate customer pain.
• Experience leveraging AI tools or systems to accelerate development and testing.
• Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test Gusto core products across the Time domain.
• Mentor other engineers to solve complex problems at scale.
• Help scale one of the largest Ruby/Rails and JavaScript/React applications.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering to understand customer pain points, prototype, iterate, and launch daily.
• Build products that customers genuinely love.
