Job summary

Google is seeking a senior engineer to lead the technical readiness and manufacturing execution for camera systems in consumer hardware. You will serve as the primary POC for cross-functional teams, suppliers, and module integrators, driving DFMs and risk mitigation from NPI through high-volume production.

You will influence design for manufacturability, establish quality programs, and monitor supplier performance to ensure scalable, high-quality camera modules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, or Materials Engineering.
  • 10 years of experience in product design, process development, or manufacturing engineering in an NPI role.
  • Experience launching high-volume consumer hardware at CM/ODM.
  • Experience in smartphone-class camera manufacturing, including AA, lens fabrication, VCM design, and image sensor integration.

Responsibilities

  • Drive cross-functional supply chain activities for overall technical operational readiness in all NPI phases leading into mass production.
  • Collaborate closely with key hardware component suppliers and module integrators to oversee and optimize camera module manufacturability.
  • Engage early in hardware development cycles with product design and engineering teams to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Establish robust Quality Programs and Manufacturing Process Control Plans at vendor sites.
  • Analyze production line statistics and field return metrics.

You will serve as the senior technical lead and primary Point of Contact (POC) for cross-functional teams, tier-1 camera suppliers, module integrators, and key component vendors. You will drive technical operational readiness, early Design for Manufacturing (DFM) engagements, and quality program execution from New Product Introduction (NPI) phases through high-volume Mass Production and lead yield improvement initiatives, process optimization, supplier performance reporting, and technical risk mitigation across the supply chain. US: $171000 - $247000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Materials Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in product design, process development, or manufacturing engineering in a New Product Introduction (NPI) role.
  • Experience launching high-volume consumer hardware products at Contract Manufacturers (CM) and Original Design Manufacturers (ODM).
  • Experience in smartphone-class camera manufacturing, including active alignment (AA), lens fabrication, Voice Coil Motors (VCM) design, and image sensor integration.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience developing camera module integration processes, optical testing systems (MTF calibration), and cosmetic inspection standards.
  • Demonstrated bottom-line project management experience, including complex data handling, product documentation, risk mitigation, and technical critical decision-making.
  • Working knowledge of Quality and Statistical tools (e.g., Statistical Process Control, Cp/Cpk studies, Gage R&R, FMEA, and DOEs) to drive systematic improvements.
  • Ability to exhibit high innovation, professional integrity, and meticulous attention-to-detail under tight launch timelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage complex cross-functional stakeholders and convey technical risks to executive leadership.
