Job summary

The Learning Lamp in the Greater Johnstown area is seeking a part-time Staff Substitute to support its school district staffing programs. You will collaborate with the Scheduling Specialist and Ignite team to cover absences in the Paraprofessional Department.

Hours are Monday through Friday during school hours. You will be involved in student supervision, personal care support, and maintaining a safe classroom environment. Training and benefits, including PTO, are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma
• Experience working with children
• Clearances and trainings: PA State Criminal History, Child Abuse, FBI Criminal History, NSOR, PDE and DHS trainings
• First Aid – CPR Certification
• Act 71 Suicide Prevention Training
• Trainings as required by PA Department of Human Services, Department of Education, PKC, The Learning Lamp and Ignite Education Solutions
• Clearances, trainings, physicals and certifications must be kept current

Responsibilities

• Assist students with physical disabilities including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning as needed
• Assist with personal care including feeding, bathroom needs and hygiene
• Adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs
• Supervise students throughout the day in lunchroom, bus, gym, field trips and playground

We are looking for a part-time Staff Substitute to support our School District Staffing Programs in the Greater Johnstown area.

The Staff Substitute will work in collaboration with the Scheduling Specialist and Ignite team to provide coverage for absences in the Paraprofessional Department.

What are the primary duties and responsibilities?

Child Supervision

• Assist student(s) with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning (if applicable)
• Assist student(s) with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene (if applicable)
• Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs
• Help supervise student(s) throughout the school day, inside and outside of the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, gym, field trips and/or playground duty.

Classroom Management

• Help classroom teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports
• Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom
• Help manage behavior of student(s) as needed
• Keep teacher informed of special needs and/or problems of student(s)
• Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts

Instruction

• Present subject matter to student(s) under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions or supervised role-playing methods
• Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
• Work with individual student(s) or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher

Qualifications:

• High school diploma
• Experience working with children

Other:

• Appropriate clearances: PA State Criminal History Record, Child Abuse Report, FBI Criminal History (PDE and DHS), NSOR Clearance and Mandated Reporter Trainings
• First Aid – CPR Certification
• Act 71 Suicide Prevention Training required
• Trainings as required by PA Department of Human Services, Department of Education, PKC, and/or The Learning Lamp and Ignite Education Solutions
• Clearances, trainings, physicals, and certifications must be kept current

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 40 pounds on a regular basis
• Sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping for long periods of time up to eight hours per day
