Job summary

The Learning Lamp seeks a part-time Staff Substitute to support preschool programs across Bedford, Everett, and Claysburg-Kimmel School Districts. You will collaborate with the Scheduling and Staffing Coordinator to cover absences in the Early Learning Department and care for a group of children as part of a teaching team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Classroom management and creating a conducive learning environment.
  • Supervise children and coordinate with assistants and aides.
  • Adhere to policies, child safety, and state regulations in PDE licensed programs.
  • Follow all DHS, PKC, STARS and PDE requirements during in-location work.

Initially started with the mission to provide access to high quality tutoring without the high price tag, our organization has grown, minimizing education and care disparities for children through child care, tutoring, and more. We are an integral part of the community, providing much needed support for families, schools, and children.

We are looking for a part-time Staff Substitute to support our preschool programs in Bedford, Everett, and Claysburg-Kimmel School Districts.

The Staff Substitute will work in collaboration with the Scheduling and Staffing Coordinator to provide coverage for absences in the Early Learning Department. The Staff Substitute is responsible for the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team and functions as a substitute in the absence of the regular staff member or teacher in a classroom.

What are the duties and responsibilities?
  • Classroom Management
    • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
    • Understand the responsibility of being a mandated child abuse/neglect reporter according to PA State Law
    • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom by straightening chairs and tables, cleaning chalkboard at the end of the day, and making sure all items are left as they were in the beginning of the day
    • Take attendance in accordance with policies and procedures
    • Ensure that students and/or children are never left unattended in the classroom or put in an unsafe situation
    • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives
  • Child Supervision
    • Supervise all activities to ensure safety at all times
    • Gear the program to the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, abilities, special talents and individual style and pace of learning
    • Coordinate activities of Assistant Group Supervisors and Aides
    • Assist with the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor and learning environment of the classroom and its learning centers
  • Quality of Care
    • Be engaged with the children at all times
    • Learn and understand policies and follow them at all times
    • Treat children with dignity and respect
  • Regulation Requirements
    • Follow all Department of Human Services, PKC and STARS requirements at all times when in Early Learning Locations
    • Follow all Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements at all times when in PDE licensed programs
    • Know the number and names of all children in your group at all times
    • Report cases of suspected child abuse/neglect according to PA State Law
What are the required qualifications?
  • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field; or
  • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 hours of secondary training (CCP or CDA); or
  • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field and 1 year of experience with children; or
  • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum (CCP or CDA); or
  • A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years of experience with children; or
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field; or
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field and 1 year experience with children; or
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field and 2 years of experience with children; or
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human service field and 3 years of experience with children.
