Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. in Chicago, IL is seeking a staff-level structural engineer to support complex Midwest and national projects. You will learn from senior experts and gain experience on structural and geo-structural projects, including building design, facades, dams, bridges, and more.

You will perform analyses, design calculations, and prepare reports, with opportunities to observe field explorations and instrumentation. Travel and field work may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college required.
• MS in Structural Engineering preferred.
• 2–6 years of structural engineering experience.
• Professional registration eligibility or attainment.
• Coursework in steel design, concrete design, soil mechanics, foundation design.
• Familiarity with analysis/design software: Tedds, ENERCALC, Mathcad, SAP2000, STAAD, RISA.
• Familiarity with drafting software: Revit, Civil3D or AutoCAD.
• Able to work in a team and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid driver's license; field work may be required.
• Willingness to work in the field and inclement weather.
• Ability to travel on temporary assignments.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support on buildings, bridges, foundations, and excavation support.
• Support structural steel, reinforced concrete, dams, and foundations design.
• Assist with feasibility studies and technical analyses of building systems and foundations.
• Use geotechnical and structural software for analyses from limit-state to FEA.
• Perform non-destructive testing and instrument installation to monitor movements.
