Job summary

Wayne UNC Health Care in Wayne, NC, is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to evaluate and treat communication, swallowing, and cognitive disorders. The role includes documentation, patient and family counseling, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Onsite, day shift, 40 hours per week, with opportunities for teaching and supervision within the Speech Language Pathology unit.

New graduates will be considered. NC licensure or eligibility is required.

Summary: Responsible for planning and implementation of Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment services. Evaluates communication disorders and administers therapy treatments for patient problems associated with hearing, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders. Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels patients and their family members. Participates in multidisciplinary consultations.

Responsibilities
  1. Reviews medical history as well as information from patients, caregivers and other professionals.
  2. Performs evaluations that meet all regulatory standards and plans an appropriate treatment plan with objective and measurable goals.
  3. Completes documentation pertaining to evaluation and treatment to meet regulatory requirements including interventions provided in combination with patient response.
  4. Documents accurate charges on all patients on a timely basis.
  5. Initiates appropriate schedule changes on a timely basis.
  6. Provides services effectively and efficiently to minimize backups in patient flow.
  7. Re-evaluates patients as appropriate. Implements new treatment plans and goals as necessary.
  8. Expresses compassion, understanding, and empathy at all times.
  9. Provides in-service training to teammates as needed or directed.
  10. Provides clinical instruction to students.
  11. Provides supervision for Rehab Services Technicians. Serves as a resource and role model.
  12. Delegates activities appropriately and effectively.
  13. Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable.
  14. Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.
  15. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  16. Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service and patient care, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm when under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems. Relates to patients in a compassionate and sincere manner.
  17. Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.
  18. Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely and consistently uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.
Other information
Education

Graduate of an accredited curriculum in Speech and Language Pathology.

Licensure / Certification

N. C. State Licensure or eligible.

Experience

New graduates will be considered.
