Job summary

Abbott, a global healthcare leader, seeks an experienced Verification Engineer to lead end-to-end software verification for cloud-based web and mobile applications in our Heart Failure division. You will craft verification plans aligned with FDA/ISO13485, collaborate across product and engineering teams, and drive automation-driven quality in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in software verification and quality engineering, with strong emphasis on automation-first testing strategies.
• Experience designing and developing scalable automation frameworks (PyTest, Jest, Playwright, REST Assured) and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, TypeScript) to build reusable automation utilities.
• Deep experience with modern CI/CD ecosystems including GitHub Actions and Azure Pipelines for automated build, test, and deployment.
• Knowledge of Docker for environment parity in automated testing.
• Experience with log aggregation/monitoring tools (Graylog, Datadog) for observability in pipelines.
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills across DevOps and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end software verification for cloud-based web and mobile apps in a regulated medical device environment.
• Develop and refine verification plans, protocols, and reports to support FDA/ISO/regulatory audits.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and developers to ensure testability and traceability of requirements.
• Support risk management activities including analysis, triage, and root-cause investigations.
• Participate in design reviews and provide verification-centric input for regulatory and quality standards.
• Drive continuous improvement of verification workflows, automation coverage, tooling, and metrics.
• Design and implement automated and manual test strategies across multiple testing levels.
• Architect and maintain test automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines for rapid software delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in automation and engineering discipline.

The Opportunity

This position works out of our Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

What You’ll Work On

• Lead and execute end‑to‑end software verification for cloud‑based web and mobile applications within a regulated medical device environment, ensuring quality and compliance throughout the development lifecycle.
• Develop, maintain, and continuously refine verification plans, protocols, and reports in alignment with FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, and other applicable standards to support regulatory audits and submissions.
• Partner closely with product owners, architects, and developers to ensure requirements are fully testable, traceable, and aligned with verification strategies.
• Support and contribute to risk management activities, including risk analysis, defect triage, impact assessment, and root‑cause investigations.
• Participate in design reviews and provide verification‑centric input, ensuring design artifacts meet regulatory and quality expectations.
• Champion continuous improvement by optimizing verification workflows, automation coverage, tooling, and metrics to increase efficiency and reliability.
• Design and implement robust automated and manual test strategies across functional, integration, system, and regression testing, emphasizing scalability, maintainability, and alignment with DevOps practices.
• Architect, develop, and maintain test automation frameworks and pipelines, integrating automated tests into CI/CD ecosystems (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines) to enable rapid, consistent, and reliable software delivery.
• Mentor and guide junior verification engineers, fostering technical growth, best practices in automation, and strong engineering discipline across the team.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in software verification and quality engineering, with strong emphasis on automation‑first testing strategies.
• Extensive hands‑on experience designing and developing scalable automation frameworks (PyTest, Jest, Playwright, REST Assured) and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, TypeScript) with the ability to build reusable automation utilities and tooling.
• Deep experience with modern CI/CD ecosystems, including GitHub Actions and Azure Pipelines, enabling fully automated build, test, and deployment workflows.
• Working knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker, supporting environment parity for automated testing in epoxy environments.
• Experience with log aggregation and monitoring tools, including Graylog and Datadog, to enable automated observability and troubleshooting within pipelines.
• Exceptional analytical, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate across cross‑functional DevOps and engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in computer science
• Experience with cloud‑native technologies, and strong knowledge of SDLC, quality assurance, and data compliance standards such as HIPAA and GDPR.
• Familiarity with system integration and end‑to‑end testing in complex environments.
• Experience with cloud‑native architectures and microservices testing.
• Background in healthcare or other regulated industries is a strong plus.
