Job summary

ID.me is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Trust Service team, building the core infrastructure that governs trust decisions for identity claims across federal and enterprise use. You will own API contracts and data models, drive reliability, and mentor engineers while leading cross-team initiatives.

This role demands strong system design, security focus, and the ability to raise engineering velocity across the platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating high-availability backend services.
• Proven ability to lead complex, cross-team technical initiatives from definition through delivery with minimal oversight.
• Deep comfort with relational databases — designing schemas, writing complex queries, and safe schema evolution.
• Experience designing and versioning REST APIs and owning the contracts downstream teams depend on.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) with an AI-first culture.

Responsibilities

• Architect & Lead Trust Graph Systems: Own the technical vision and architecture for the Trust Service at scale.
• API Contract & Data Model Stewardship: Own REST API contracts and inspection data models.
• Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Set code quality and engineering standards; mentor engineers.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Identity, Authentication, Fraud, Workflow, Platform, and Compliance.
• Reliability, Performance & Security: Ensure availability, observability, and security for trusted reads/writes.
• Roadmap Influence: Contribute to platform roadmap with investments in reliability and developer experience.
