Job summary

Affinity is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to drive technical direction for a core product domain, influencing architecture and roadmaps across teams. You’ll work across the stack, from data models and backend processing to frontend visualization, ensuring high-quality implementations and strong collaboration with product and design.

You will lead multi-quarter initiatives, mentor engineers, and push for reliability and performance improvements.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and shipping production software as a full-stack engineer.
• Demonstrated impact beyond your own team through architecture or mentorship.
• Strong server-side experience with modern OOP; Ruby + PostgreSQL familiarity welcome.

Responsibilities

• Set and own the technical direction for a core product domain.
• Lead complex, multi-quarter initiatives end to end.
• Partner with product and design from problem definition to implementation.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers and raise the technical bar.
• Improve reliability, performance, and developer velocity.
• Own operational health including observability and on-call for your domain.
• Leverage AI development tools to speed work where beneficial.
