Job summary

Stripe is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Payments Intelligence to help shape architecture across the portfolio and ensure scalable, reliable systems that touch every transaction. You’ll lead in a fast-moving environment, collaborating with ML, product, design, and engineering teams, while mentoring engineers and driving strategic technical decisions.

This role is based onsite in the United States (NY, Seattle, or SF).

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in a strategic technical leadership role.
• Experience leading engineering teams on Distributed systems, API design, and user-facing products.
• Proven track record delivering pragmatic solutions that accelerate business growth.
• Ability to drive projects at a high level while contributing hands-on when needed.
• Excellent communication skills and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Define technical strategy across the Payment Intelligence portfolio with focus on quality and performance.
• Champion a quality-first engineering culture - establish standards, tooling, and processes that make it easy to ship high-quality code at scale.
• Partner with Stripe’s largest merchants to co-build the future of payment-centric intelligence.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and ML colleagues to ship the very best software possible.
• Work across the stack - contributing to infrastructure and foundational systems, but also FE, API, and ML-adjacent work.
