Job description

About us

Pomelo Care is the national leader in evidence-based healthcare for women and children. We deliver personalized, high-quality clinical interventions from reproductive care and pregnancy, infant care and pediatrics, to hormonal health through perimenopause and menopause, with long-term preventive care and condition management. Our model delivers 24/7 multispecialty care to address the medical, behavioral, and social factors that most significantly impact outcomes for women and children. We partner with payers, employers, and providers to expand access to quality healthcare across the system.

Our engineering team is the engine behind our virtual care platform, building AI-powered solutions that transform care delivery and create exceptional experiences for both patients and clinicians. If you're passionate about using technology to do real, tangible good in the world, we'd love to meet you.

We are a remote-first company with offices in New York and San Francisco. Our New York office has a strong in-person culture with regular collaboration, and our San Francisco office is available for those who enjoy working together in person.

Why This Role Matters

We can only meaningfully improve health outcomes if patients are highly engaged in their care and trust our team. The earlier we can start providing care, the more likely we can affect outcomes. That all starts with the patient experience: building features that check in with patients throughout their journey, provide them the best next step for their care, triage their urgent needs, make it simple to get high quality care, and help them feel supported. This role sits at the center of that mission.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the technical direction for our mobile development strategy and patient-facing apps, shaping how tens of thousands of patients experience Pomelo
  • Rapidly prototype and ship features in our patient mobile and web apps alongside design and product, using AI tools to move fast and test ideas that meaningfully improve engagement and retention
  • Help steer product direction for how we support and retain patients in their critical first month with Pomelo, when the window to affect outcomes is widest
  • Talk directly to patients and partner with product, design, and clinical teams to turn real needs into real features
  • Mentor and grow junior engineers, raising the bar for the whole team
  • Set the technical standards, architecture patterns, and development practices that our patient-facing products are built on
  • How do we get patients proactively engaged in their own care?
  • How do we personalize the patient experience to specific needs and interests while meaningfully moving outcomes?
  • How do we build habits so that patients check in with us first when problems come up during their pregnancy?
  • How do we keep patients engaged without always requiring direct clinical intervention?
Who You Are
  • You have deep experience building and shipping consumer or patient-facing products, whether mobile, web, or both
  • You’ve served as a technical lead on a team, setting architecture direction and mentoring other engineers
  • You have strong opinions, loosely held, about how to build great user experiences
  • You’re comfortable working across the full stack and moving quickly in a startup environment
  • You’re keeping up with trends in LLM coding agents to multiply your engineering impact
  • You enjoy collaborating closely with product and design, not just executing on specs

We’ll be especially excited if you:

  • Have experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile frameworks
  • Have experience building products in healthcare, wellness, or other high-trust consumer domains
  • Have worked on engagement, retention, or onboarding flows and understand what makes users stick around
  • Have prior experience with AI/ML or building agent-based systems
Why You Should Join

By joining Pomelo, you will help shape the future of a fast-moving, well-funded, and mission-driven startup that always puts the patient first. You will learn, grow, and be challenged, and have fun with your team while doing it. We strive to create an environment where employees from all backgrounds are respected. We also offer:

  • Generous equity compensation
  • Unlimited vacation
  • Membership in the First Round Network (a curated and confidential community with events, guides, thousands of Q&A questions, and opportunities for 1-1 mentorship)

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our company’s size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Pomelo Care. In accordance with New York City, Colorado, California, and other applicable laws, Pomelo Care is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity. Given that this role is open to candidates of different skill levels, determining a salary range is challenging. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $220,000 to $260,000. We expect most candidates to fall in the middle of the range.
