Staff Software Engineer – Omnichannel Notifications System

Job summary

Snap Inc. recruiting for a senior backend engineering leader to set the technical direction for its omnichannel notification platform and drive architecture across teams.

You will design, build, and operate highly available backend services delivering notifications across channels, while mentoring engineers and aligning multi-quarter roadmaps. Expect strong emphasis on observability, scalability, and cloud adoption.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of post-Bachelor's software development experience; or a Master's degree in a technical field + 8+ years of post-grad software development experience; or a PhD in a related technical field + 5+ years of post-grad software development experience
• Experience designing, building, and operating backend services or distributed systems at significant scale
• Proven track record of owning highly-available, mission-critical systems, including on-call participation, incident response, and driving systemic fixesAbility to set technical vision and lead complex, cross-functional initiatives over multiple quarters
• Strong foundation in system design, including APIs, data models, storage, pub/sub, queues, and workflow orchestration
• Performance and latency optimization experience
• Deep experience with observability, including metrics, logging, tracing, and dashboards
• Experience building and operating reliable, scalable services in cloud technologies
• Preferred: experience with Java, Go, C++, and/or Python
• Preferred: experience with NoSQL data stores, Memcache/Redis, and cloud services such as Google Cloud or AWS
• Preferred: experience with pub/sub and task-queue systems such as Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, or Cloud Tasks
• Preferred: experience with notification, messaging, growth, or experimentation platforms, including ranking, targeting, and A/B testing at scale

Responsibilities

• Participate in incident response and lead systemic improvements
• Translate ambiguous product and business needs into technical strategies and multi-quarter roadmaps
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance
• Drive alignment across teams and influence architecture and priorities without direct authority
