Job Summary

This role acts as a project leader, coordinating the activities of engineers, determining technical tasks, and improving existing structures and processes. It involves making technical decisions, collaborating with management to set standards, and representing the company to external partners.

Essential Responsibilities

• Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system.
• Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow.
• Ensures actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives.
• Proactively improves existing structures and processes.
• Exercises judgment in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity, risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems.
• Identifies patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions.
• Collaborates with management to set or improve standards for engineering rigor.
• Represents PayPal to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in mobile development.
• Experience developing and maintaining consumer‑facing mobile applications at scale, with strong Swift skills and knowledge of multi‑threaded, asynchronous code.
• Deep understanding of consuming GraphQL and REST APIs from mobile applications.
• Passion for mentoring and developing software engineers.
• Ability to understand and discuss complex topics with technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Strong understanding of testing best practices and familiarity with at least one testing framework for mobile development; skilled at writing unit and automation tests.
• Strong knowledge of common design patterns, algorithms, and object‑oriented programming with expertise in patterns such as MVC and MVVM.

Pay Range

Base pay depends on location and experience. Expected ranges:

• San Jose, California: $176,500 – $262,350 salary.
• Austin, Texas: $160,500 – $238,700 salary.

Additional compensation may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation.
