Job summary

Amplitude, the leading AI analytics platform, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to deepen the Nova OLAP engine and its infrastructure. You will work across query planning, storage, distributed compute, and cloud integration to improve performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability at scale for thousands of product teams.

You will mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and collaborate with product and data teams to translate system capabilities into customer value.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with distributed data systems and OLAP engines.
• Experience building or extending analytical/OLAP systems (query engines, columnar storage, data processing).
• Track record of cost optimization on cloud infrastructure.
• Strong CS fundamentals: distributed systems, data structures, concurrency, performance.
• Production experience with AWS, Kafka, Redis/ElastiCache, Kubernetes, Terraform.
• Proficiency in Java, C++, or Python.
• Demonstrated influence beyond the immediate team via design reviews and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and execution of multi‑month projects for the Nova architecture, performance, or capabilities.
• Drive cost and performance improvements in compute, storage, and networking.
• Improve reliability and operational tooling; participate in on‑call rotation.
• Mentor engineers and drive cross‑team alignment on architectural decisions.
