Job summary

SingleStore is hiring a Staff Engineer to lead Flow's end-to-end data path from source systems through migration engines and Helios, while maintaining hands-on coding and strategic architectural influence.

You will steer large, release-defining projects, optimize data consistency, and drive observability, performance, and reliability across distributed systems.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Product and customers, mentoring, and producing clear technical documentation for cross-team use.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional production software experience or equivalent impact.
• Expert-level Java programming and debugging for enterprise codebases.
• Experience with JDBC and SQL metadata, data types, and schema information.
• Strong understanding of databases, replication, transactions, indexing, and data consistency.
• Deep experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Java performance engineering, concurrency, and memory management.
• Hands-on experience with Change Data Capture or similar streaming tech.
• Demonstrated ability to design reliable, scalable distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud-native services and Kubernetes.
• Track record of leading large technical initiatives and architecture decisions.
• Strong testing discipline and observability focus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to mentor engineers.
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for Flow’s major areas including migration engines, CDC, schema evolution, large-table migration, and Flow APIs.
• Lead design and delivery of large, complex projects from problem definition to production rollout.
• Make architecture decisions balancing value, reliability, performance, and speed.
• Design and implement production-quality software while staying hands-on.
• Solve complex data-consistency, replication, and memory scaling challenges.
• Establish high standards for design, testing, observability, and operations.
• Drive root-cause analysis and durable improvements from incidents.
• Improve production operability with runbooks, dashboards, and release discipline.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Support and customers to translate migration requirements into robust solutions.
• Mentor engineers, lead reviews, and help grow the next generation of leaders.
• Create clear technical docs detailing APIs, journeys, trade-offs, and operations.
• Advance AI-native development practices to improve productivity.
