Job summary

GitHub is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Enterprise AI Governance team. You will design, build, and operate secure backend services and APIs to govern Copilot deployments at scale, collaborating with product, security, and other platform teams.

You will lead technical direction, drive reliability, and ensure governance scales with growth while staying simple and trustworthy for enterprise customers in a remote-first environment across the United States.

Qualifications

• 9+ years experience in software engineering with production code in multiple languages.
• Alternative pathways: 8+ years with an Associate’s Degree; 7+ years with a Bachelor's Degree; 5+ years with a Master’s; 3+ years with a Doctorate or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and ship high-quality scalable solutions across GitHub services.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, pairing, and code reviews to grow others.
• Own system health and on-call rotations; drive reliability and operational excellence.
• Write architecture briefs and proposals; run code experiments.
• Design and implement APIs for seamless component integration.
• Use CI/CD to build automated pipelines for continuous integration and delivery.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on technical solutions and trade-offs.
• Develop testing plans, define success metrics, and incorporate customer feedback.
• Maintain executional and operational excellence across teams.
• Use debugging tools and telemetry to validate assumptions and optimize performance.
• Drive a technical roadmap aligned with product goals.
