Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC in California is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to help evolve the embedded stack on our x86 platform—UEFI, bootloader, drivers, Yocto Linux—and to integrate with our cloud services.

You’ll collaborate across hardware and software teams (C/C++, Go, Python) to ship features OTA, optimize AI inference and CV workloads, and ensure secure boot and robust performance. On-site five days a week; visa sponsorship available.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
  • 5+ years of Linux system programming experience (C/C++, Go, or Rust).
  • Experience in embedded development or low-level system software.
  • Strong OS knowledge and computer architecture understanding.

About the Role

From a technical perspective, the embedded software stack runs on an x86-based platform, necessitating work on: UEFI, bootloader, drivers, custom Linux OS distribution via yocto project, containerization, solid-state and hard disk storage, filesystem and block device mapping. The device interacts with a scalable cloud backend consisting of golang and python services in a typical microservice architecture stack. A the company proprietary suite of streaming technologies are implemented to provide high quality live and recorded video. Frontends include both web and mobile. Security technologies including encryption, signing, secure/trusted boot are also key to our implementation.

This product also implements high performance AI inference and computer vision (CV) features, which require optimization and productionization work in collaboration with the computer vision team that trains all our models.

What You'll Do
  • Work cross-functionally with the hardware team to develop camera features in C/C++, Go and Python.
  • Lead code reviews, debugging, and bug fixes.
  • Experiment/test with new development boards.
  • Make regular contributions to existing code base to push new features OTA on a frequent basis.
What You Bring
  • BS/MS in Computer Science (or similar degree)
  • 5+ years of experience of software development for Linux in System Programming Languages (C, C++, Rust, Go, etc)
  • Experience in embedded development or experience with low-level system software development.
  • Good knowledge with operating systems and computer architecture.
  • Good communication & documentation skills.
  • Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week

Annual Pay Range

Below is the annual on-target earnings (OTE) range for full-time employees for this position, comprised of base compensation and commissions (if applicable).
