Job summary

8x8 is seeking a Staff Software Developer to build reliable, scalable billing and commerce systems. You will join a tight‑knit team, collaborating with engineering management and cross‑functional partners across Salesforce, finance, and channel ops.

This is a full‑stack backend‑leaning role focused on customer hierarchy modeling, subscription lifecycle, usage-based billing, tax integrations, and payment processing, with a Spring Boot/Spring Cloud stack and Java at the core.

Qualifications

• 14+ years of experience designing and developing scalable backend systems.
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
• Deep expertise in Java (primary); Python or other languages a plus.
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Experience integrating with ERP/CRM/billing systems.
• Strong API design with REST and asynchronous patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver reliable billing platform experiences with cross‑functional teams.
• Architect and develop scalable backend services and APIs in the billing ecosystem.
• Lead complex technical efforts end‑to‑end with minimal supervision.
• Provide engineering guidance and uphold code quality and observability standards.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of billing components.
• Drive design decisions for new platform capabilities such as usage-based billing.
