Job summary

Google is seeking a software engineer to contribute to BigQuery, a fast, serverless data warehouse within Google Cloud Platform. You will work on large-scale, distributed systems across multiple languages and data paths, with opportunities to switch teams as projects evolve.

The role emphasizes leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and delivering low-latency, high-throughput data solutions for diverse industry use cases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java, C/C++ or Python.
• 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
• Experience with GPU programming (CUDA, OpenCL) and optimization techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on projects.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.
• Improve BigQuery engine to remove bottlenecks for low latency queries, design solutions that are easy to maintain and extend.
• Work with BigQuery and Dremel codebase, which is primarily C++ with some Java in data planes and Python for tests.
