B12 is seeking a tenured Staff Software Engineer to lead major backend and infrastructure initiatives, mentor teammates, and own shipping critical projects.

You’ll work across product, design, and CTO, shaping system design, improving reliability, and guiding others through complex problems, with a bias for practical solutions and quality.

This is the first Staff Engineer hire on a small product team; expect influence, rapid learning, and a role that blends hands-on coding with mentorship.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of production experience building complex systems.
• Strong backend/infrastructure focus with broad understanding of the stack.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery of large, quarterly-pace projects and mentor teammates.
• Participate in planning and identify key initiatives for the next quarter.
• Mentor engineers through planning, prototyping, and implementation phases.
• Respond to incidents, write postmortems, and improve tooling and infrastructure.
• Identify and optimize costly or unstable infrastructure.
• Collaborate with design/product to shape direction and feasibility.
• Assist data analyses to answer complex business questions.
• Lead brainstorming to improve engineering effectiveness and quality.
