Job summary

B12's engineering team treats software as a craft while aiming to improve the world. We're seeking a tenured Staff Software Engineer with strong backend/infrastructure skills to own major projects and mentor teammates on a ~10-person product team.

You'll work with Python/Django and TypeScript/React, run on AWS, Docker, PostgreSQL/Redshift, and contribute to infrastructure improvements, testing, and deployment practices.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building products and systems in production.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Strong ownership mentality and time-management.
• Curious with a willingness to learn and teach.
• Backend/infrastructure focus with frontend familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Own the delivery of major projects, shipping code with the team.
• Participate in quarterly planning to identify key initiatives.
• Mentor engineers through planning, prototyping, and implementation.
• Respond to incidents, write postmortems, and improve tooling.
• Identify infrastructure cost savings and performance improvements.
• Discuss early designs with designers/product managers.
• Unblock data analysis work on hairy business questions.
• Lead brainstorming sessions to improve quality and velocity.
